Greetings from Bogota

Here is a photo from yesterday at Vista Hermosa Hospital for children.  Our team of Carlos Lopez of Connecting Smiles (clown, juggler, magician and entrepreneur) and Ryan Bart, (Fulbright scholar, magician and director of MWB’s project in Bogota, Colombia) performed for the hospital staff and the children for three hours delighting all of us.

After a bowl of soup in a tiny restaurant on the dusty street across from the hospital we headed to Bella Flor and gathered with Ryan’s ten magic students.  We are collaborating with Bella Flor, a non profit organization working with at risk youth in the Cuidad Bolivar slum on the edge of Bogota.  Janet warmed them up with movement exercises and theater games. Then Tom, Ryan and Carlos taught them the great classic of magic, The Cups and Balls. By the end of the two hours each student did a solo performance of The Cups and Balls. In a week we will perform again at the hospital and have another teaching session with the young magicians.

Tomorrow evening we will have dinner with the world famous Colombian magician, Gustavo Lorgia. Gustavo is a member of the great three generation Logia dynasty of magicians.  He has been very supportive of our project here in Bogota. With magicians like Carlos Lopez and Gustavo Lorgia supporting our work, we have no doubts that the project will continue long after Ryan heads off on his next adventure.
